Tenants include a mix of new retailers to the town and others who are opening up their second Warrnambool outlet.
German supermarket giant Aldi opened its second store in Warrnambool as did national chain store Sportspower.
Warrnambool City Council mayor Kylie Gaston said the Gateway Plaza expansion was a huge boost for the city.
“This is a great show of confidence in our city,” Cr Gaston said.
“The north-eastern part of our city is a growing precinct. There is a place for online shopping but people still want service and still like to go and look at the choice they have when they are buying things.”
Victorian franchise Yang Yangs Massage is among the other stores to open its doors.
National chains Blind Jimmy’s and Best and Less have relocated from other areas in the plaza.
Warrnambool-based coffee outlet Dr Tully’s Expresso Bar will add a second store to its business when it opens in the new mall in a fortnight, as will Express Alterations.
Another Warrnambool business, Wings and Things fresh and gourmet poultry, will open its first store while Gateway Newsagency will also be part of the second batch of stores opening, relocating to the new mall.
The expansion is the biggest in Gateway Plaza’s 30 year history.
Construction of the new mall took nine months with 80 per cent of the 460 tradespeople registered on site during that time coming from the local area. Over 30 full-time jobs will be created from the expansion.
