HAWKESDALE stand-in captain Jason Elliott believes the Cats can build on a strong batting performance against Wangoom.

Elliott (86), Adrian Benson (56) and Tim Huglin (52) all made half-centuries on day one of their Grassmere Cricket Association two-day clash on Saturday.

The Cats made 8-243 at Wangoom.

“My partnership with Tim was really pleasing,” he said.

“We lost early wickets and we then put on 140-odd and set a good foundation.

“We then lost three quick wickets and Adrian Benson and Harrison Cozens’ partnership was crucial to set up a decent total.”

Elliott is wary of a Roosters’ response, highlighting Corey McKenzie as in form with the bat.
