8.16PM: Make that four Hampden exports with Sean Darcy from Cobden off to Fremantle at pick 38!
8.08PM: Koroit premiership player Willem Drew is off to Port Adelaide with pick 33 – the third Hampden export picked up already!
7.59PM: Is Terang teacher Paul Henriksen, who is off to Brisbane as a development coach, having a big say? Two Hampden exports in Cox and McCluggage now Lions. Three of Lions’ first four picks from North Ballarat Rebels. Plenty of love for the country lads up north!
7.57PM: Wowee, Cedric Cox off to Brisbane Lions at pick 24. From Western Australia, to Camperdown to Queensland in the space of 10 months. Congrats Cedric!
7.52PM: Jordan Ridley (Essendon) and Alex Witherden (Brisbane) next to have their names read out. Witherden first Geelong Falcon selected. Will Cobden ruckman Sean Darcy, another out of that TAC Cup program, find a home later in the draft?
7.49PM: Issac Cumming (GWS) and Will Hayward (Sydney) next to find new homes. Essendon has asked for extra time as it decides who to snap up at pick 22.
7.45PM: Second round is underway, this is where we hope it gets interesting for some of our Hampden league exports.
7.40PM: First round done and dusted. Will Cox and Koroit’s Willem Drew get picked up early in the second round as touted?
7.30PM: Western Australian ruckman Tim English off to Western Bulldogs at 19. Cedric Cox overlooked here.
7.38PM: Horsham Saints’ Jarrod Berry joins his North Ballarat Rebels teammate Hugh McCluggage at Brisbane, taken with pick 17 and Western Australian Sam Powell-Pepper lands at Port Adelaide with 18.
7.36PM: Harry Perryman (GWS), Jordan Gallucci (Eastern Ranges) and Todd Marshall (Port Adelaide) the next to land at clubs.
7.33PM: West Coast grab Daniel Venables from Western Jets at 13. Plenty of surprises so far. Camperdown’s Cedric Cox has been linked to Western Bulldogs at pick 18. Will he go that early?
7.32PM: North Melbourne takes Jy Simpkin at pick 12 – a creative small forward out of Murray Bushrangers.
7.31PM: Sydney throws a shock, taking Sandringham Dragons’ Oliver Florent at pick 11 after North Melbourne at 12 was linked to him in the lead up.
7.25PM: Gold Coast snaps up its academy player Jack Bowes with pick 10.
7.23PM: Murray Bushrangers midfielder Will Brodie joins Gold Coast at pick nine. Was touted as a potential number one pick at the start of the season.
7.21PM: Gold Coast takes Jack Scrimshaw – another out of the Sandringham factory – at seven and Fremantle selects Swan Districts key position player Griffin Logue at eight.
7.19PM: Camperdown recruit Cedric Cox’s cousin, another Halls Creek cousin Sam Petrevski-Seton, joins Carlton at pick six.
7.17PM: Wow, Sandringham Dragons have three players picked in top five – McGrath (Essendon), Taranto (GWS) and Will Setterfield (GWS). Gold Coast picked Gippsland Power small forward Ben Ainsworth at pick four.
7.13PM: Well done Hugh McCluggage – off to Brisbane with pick three. Brilliant effort from the South Warrnambool lad. He’d be rapt if he could emulate the feats of another Rooster export – three-time premiership Lion Jonathan Brown!
7.11PM: Greater Western Sydney choose a Sandringham Dragon too, taking Tim Taranto with pick two.
7.06PM: The number one pick is Sandringham Dragons’ Andrew McGrath. Is McCluggage off to Brisbane with pick three?
7PM: And we’re off...
5.50PM: The south-west is hoping for its first draftees in two years tonight. The most recent Hampden teenagers to land at AFL clubs have made pretty promising starts to their careers – Cobden jet Zach Merrett is a Bombers’ best and fairest winner and Terang Mortlake’s Lewis Taylor won the AFL rising star award in his first season!
5.45pm: The countdown is on. In little over an hour the 2016 draft will start in Sydney. And there’s plenty of support for the Hampden league’s exports.
Draft D-day: Years of hard work is about to pay off for south-west’s most promising footballers. The Hampden league has nine players hoping to be picked up via the national draft tonight or rookie draft on Monday.
