Jamie Underwood, 44, has been living at his deceased mother's home at Ardonachie School Road, Macarthur.

He was arrested by Hamilton police at 1.20am Friday at the Commonwealth Bank after a police check found he was wanted on four warrants issued in the Geelong Magistrates Court during November 1993 relating to numerous offences.

Underwood appeared in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court later on Friday and pleaded guilty to 10 offences including theft of cars, unlicensed driving, going equipped to steal, theft and failing to answer bail.

He was convicted and fined $1000.

Magistrate Ann McGarvie was informed that at that time Underwood had previously served an eight-month jail term.

In another court hearing mid Friday afternoon, Warrnambool police prosecutor Senior Constable Paul Harris applied for Underwood to be remanded in custody in remanded over the weekend.

He said South Australian police detective would apply for Underwood to be extradited interstate on Monday.

A South Australian warrant indicates that Underwood is wanted after being charged with 11 serious sex offences including two counts of rape.

When told of the charges, Underwood said: "Excuse me for being shocked but no one told me all this".

South Australian police requested Underwood be held in custody as he had no fixed address and could contact victims and their families.

Underwood said everything he owned was in his car which was stranded in Hamilton including legal papers and photos.

He said his home in Port Augusta had been ransacked and he had lost possessions gathered during the past decade.

Underwood requested he be granted bail to secure his property and said he would report to the Port Augusta police station first thing on Monday morning.

"I'm willing to wear a GPS bracelet or anything else to to secure my property," he said.

He said he had only been at Macarthur to finalise his deceased mother's affairs.

The magistrate remanded Underwood in custody until Monday noting he was taking a range of medication for depression, pain management and asthma.

Underwood questioned if he could get assistance to secure his property.

He said there was no one he could call for assistance as everyone in Port Augusta had turned on him.

8.30am: A 44-YEAR-OLD man is expected to be extradited to South Australia after being picked up by Hamilton police early Friday on warrants from more than 20 years ago.

Police sources said Hamilton uniform police officers arrested the man at 1.20am near the Hamilton Commonwealth Bank.

There were four warrants issued in the Geelong Magistrates Court during November 1993 relating to driving offences.

Port Augusta police detectives are also in the process of preparing paperwork to apply for extradition.

The man is wanted in South Australia on serious sex charges.

It is understood there is no indication the man has been committing offences in the Hamilton district.

South Australian police had been trying to track down the man.
