By competing in the world's oldest marathon next year, he hopes to repay a 12-year-old debt to the services that came to his aid.

The hospitality manager will run with 30,000 others in the Boston Marathon in April to raise money for Lifeline.

“Personally, I have been affected by suicide on more than one occasion. The brother of my partner many years ago ended his own life, while one of my closest friends and his mum chose to end their lives together,” he said.” It was devastating at the time, and still is. My friends, family, workplace and numerous counseling services were all very supportive throughout and following these tragedies.”

Mr Ansell, 35, has tins at local businesses and will host fundraising events.

"I'll pay my own way to Boston because it’s a personal goal but due to the significance of the event I'll be running on behalf of Lifeline."
