The Timboon Demons premiership coach will be joined at the helm by Rovers under 17 coach Peter Timms, who guided the club’s juniors to three consecutive grand final triumphs from 2014-16.
Matheson also has experience as an assistant coach at Hampden league clubs South Warrnambool and Port Fairy.
Rovers president John Downie said the result was a “fantastic” outcome for the club.
“Peter has a fantastic relationship with our junior players and Adam is obviously very experienced,” he said.
“Adam is a source of information and what he can teach our juniors is just exciting. They’re the sort of people you need at your club in this day and age.”
