Operation Bombay, set to run most of the day in the service lane off Lonsdale Street, will involve the inspection of cars as well as testing for drugs and alcohol.
Hamilton Police First Constable Uwe Stolzenberg said defective cars were a huge risk on the road.
“By running this operation, we want to get as many dangerous cars off the road as we can and educate drivers on the importance of vehicle safety,” he said.
