They might not look much by today’s standards, they were the first of their kind in the area at that time.
Fishermen Cliff Sharp and Doug Shrimpton built the two boats, which were about 26 feet long and 10 feet wide.
The feat was completed in Timboon with plans the men obtained from Western Australia, where the designs were used successfully by professionals, prompting the men’s reproduction.
The construction of the boats took the two men three and a half months.
Each boat was powered by a six-cylinder marine engine with a maximum speed of 17 knots (about 31km/h).
The professionally praised boats enabled fisherman in the area to crayfish faster than ever before.
