On Thursday the French patriot is making his dream a reality by taking part in this year’s Great Cycle Challenge.
Mr Durante committed to riding the 400 kilometres from Warrnambool to St Kilda to fundraise for children’s cancer research.
“Cycling is my passion,” he said. “I’ve been in Australia for 10 months and it’s time to return home. I wanted to cycle the Great Ocean Road before I go.”
A member of Warrnambool cycle group, ‘Try-harders’, Mr Durante will ride up to six hours per day, resting overnight in Port Cambell, Apollo Bay and Queenscliffe until the ride is complete. He then returns home to Lyon – by aeroplane, we believe.
