The Saturday Age Racing Experts' quaddie

MOONEE VALLEY CUP LEG 1
A really intriguing race with a handful of genuine chances. We settled on Precedence and Ironstein as the best value runners in the field.

NUMBERS 2, 3, 4, 5, 7

CRYSTAL MILE LEG 2
Sydney mile form out of the Epsom Handicap always looks good in a race like this, so Rangirangdoo and Ambidexter will do the job nicely here.

NUMBERS 1, 6

COX PLATE LEG 3
There are so many ways to play this race and it has the potential to confuse even the most hardened form student. Be brave and trim this leg right up.

NUMBERS 4, 9, 12

TESIO STAKES LEG 4
A strong mares race to complete the program, and Toorak Handicap runner-up Spirit Song heads the betting.

NUMBERS 1, 2, 4, 5

FAR AND WIDE
Rosehill Race 8, No. 3
VELROSSO

Chris Waller just eased off this exciting four-year-old after his last-start defeat and now targets this very winnable race with a horse ready to peak again. Velrosso was stunning in two wins early this preparation and should thunder over the top of this field.

Jockey: Michael Rodd

LANNISTER (Race 1, No. 5)

I've got a nice opinion of her. I galloped her at Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning and she felt like a two-year-old with quite a bit of potential. Things won't be easy from the barrier, as she's likely to be caught wide, but has ability.

BEYOND PARDON (Race 2, No. 6)

He's the oldest horse in the race, but he's always been a genuine, honest sprinter in every preparation he tackles. He's nice and fresh here and should get a terrific run from the barrier - and he's always a threat in this grade.

SUPER COOL (Race 5, No. 4)

Very honest and his past three efforts have been strong. Having said that though, the very short-priced favourite, It's A Dundeel, is going to be extremely hard to beat. But if he runs a forward race here, we'll probably have a look at the derby next Saturday for him.

ILLO (Race 7, No. 4)

Michael Walker rode him the other day and thought he was working into the race like a winner, but he appeared to find the ground a bit hard. He's a good horse on his day and if there's a bit of sting out of the ground he'll be right in the finish.

SINCERO (Race 8, No. 2)

Has had a faultless lead-up to this year's Cox Plate. He's got a terrific turn of foot when he needs it, which is always a major asset in a Cox Plate. Sure, he's going to need some luck from his awkward barrier, but I wouldn't discount him.

TRANQUERA (Race 9, No. 8)

Very honest filly who never runs a bad race, although she is rising in grade here. She's good enough to cope with that and I would expect from the draw she'll be right in the mix.

Trainer: Leon Corstens

FANTOME GRIS (Race 1, No. 12)

I like this filly very much. She's gone through the education process well, but I just feel that she'll be better off next time around - but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if she won.

SNITZEM (Race 2, No. 5)

I've had to scratch him as he's got a foot abscess and we'll bring him back for the autumn.

STARS IN THE SKY (Race 4, No. 5)

I like him very much. I was very encouraged with his win the other day.

We gelded him and that's made a difference and I think he'll run a terrific race.

TOKUGAWA (Race 7, No. 5)

Horse of great ability, but we didn't see it last start. I've put blinkers on him to make him concentrate because he raced like a flat horse the other day and I think the blinkers will make him get up and think about his racing. Sure to be in the finish, but I'm just disappointed the race is now under weight-for-age conditions, which puts him at a disadvantage.

Trainer: Wayne Hawkes

PINOVA (Race 1, No. 13)

A very nice filly who is very much the jump-and-run type of two-year-old. If she begins the way she has at home, it will make her very competitive as she has all of the assets you need as a two-year-old.

ALL TOO HARD (Race 8, No. 13)

We saw how good he was at Caulfield. He's come through the race perfectly. We're extremely happy with him coming into a Cox Plate and if he brings his A-grade game with him, you can bet he will have his head in the finish. But, as I say, we can't fault his lead-up into this race.

TAVARNELLE (Race 9, No. 9)

This mare is flying at the moment. She's done everything we've asked of her. She's drawn perfectly here and her win two starts back at Mornington was a strong one and, after she was slow out at Caulfield, she came from nearly last to finish just behind the placings. She's drawn one, which should be a big plus here and we are very hopeful of her winning.
