Warrnambool College student Naticia Varley hopes her run leg will give her an advantage on her opponents on Sunday.
The Killarney triathlon will consist of a 500-metre swim, 16-kilometre ride and 4.4km beach and oval run.
Varley, 15, is an avid runner and rates the bike leg her most difficult.
“I have swam a bit and done a fair bit of running but I just haven’t rode in like six months,” she said.
Varley is preparing for a bumper summer on the running track.
She won under 16 800m and 1500m bronze medals at the School Sport Victoria titles in Melbourne earlier this month.
The all-schools state championships, which are open to public and private school students, in a fortnight are next on her agenda.
Varley will run in the 1500m – her pet event – and the 3km and 800m.
“I placed in 3km last year, so it would be good to try and place in something again,” she said.
