GIRLS yearning to become the next Ellyse Perry or Belinda Clark will begin their journey to stardom when the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association (WDCA) under 16 and 13 girls competition begins on November 9.

The WDCA has finalised the structure and fixture for the competition, which will include six teams from the south-west in the under 16 division, and four in the under 13 category.
Woodford (two teams), Koroit (two teams), Nestles, Brierly-Christ Church, Russells Creek, Nirranda, East Warrnambool and a composite team from the Grassmere Cricket Association will compete across the two age divisions.
Nirranda and Woodford Blue are set to kick-start the action at Brierly in the under 16 competition – on November 9 – while Nestles will lock horns with Brierly-Christ Church at the Wenborn Oval.
Woodford Gold will then host Koroit at Bushfield.
WDCA chairman Gordon McLeod said it would comprise of two pools – group A, which will include girls from 13-16 years of age, and group B, for girls under 13-10.
He said it was important to structure the competition in a way which considered even age distribution.
“As a preliminary event, it is intended that all teams participate in a warm up come and play night on November 2 at 5pm at the Brierly hard wicket oval,” he said.
“This will be an opportunity for some practice and interaction for the girls prior to the season commencing.
“The format of the games will also be modified to ensure that all players have the opportunity to bat and bowl with Super 8 and T-Blast rules governing the games.”
