South West Gaelic Football Interest Group is organising the Saturday, November 5 event, which will feature a session to introduce children to the sport from 11am-12noon, before a tournament that will run from 1-5pm at Friendly Societies Park.
Group member Anthony Leddin said anyone wanting to learn more about Gaelic footy or watch the matches was welcome to attend.
“It certainly is just about having fun and everyone can come along,” he said.
“There’s no tackling in it. It’s great for kids that might be a bit scared of that component.
“We’ve got a men’s competition, a junior competition and a women’s competition, too. We might even end up playing mixed as well.”
Aussie Rules footballers from across the region will take on the different code in the women’s competition, while two south-west teams will face off in the men’s.
Ballarat’s St Patrick’s College will supply two boys teams for the junior competition.
Leddin said organisers were still after four more females to join in the women’s match, and encouraged anyone interested in the sport, regardless of skill level, to join in weekly training at Port Fairy’s Gardens Oval on Sundays from 12noon-1pm.
More information about training and the South West Games event is available on the South West Gaelic Football Interest Group Facebook page.
