President Barry Warren said Sens, who injured his leg in a motorcycle accident, was a 16-time Australian cycling champion who had completed two Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Classics.
“He’s a very engaging speaker,” Mr Warren said. “He’s really inspiring, not only in cycling but how people can overcome injury, or in life this guy highlights what can be done.
“It’s inspiring, not only that he competed in the (Sydney) paralympics, but to be able to ride two Melbourne to Warrnambool’s is an amazing effort,” Mr Warren said.
Mr Warren said the November 12 event, to be held at the Warrnambool Football Club, would include addresses by founding members Barry Webster – a competitive cyclist for almost 60 years, Ted Carter, Jim Hocking and John Medley and south-west cyclist Clyde Sefton who raced at the Munich Olympics.
“It should be a good night,” Mr Warren said. “Anyone with an interest in cycling is invited to come along and enjoy the night.”
“It’s open to anyone who would like to come along and celebrate 35 years of the veterans cycling club.”
Tickets are $25 and include a two-course meal. To book contact Barry on 0478 313 493 or Jennie Noonan on 0448 218 881 by November 5.
