The Dogs had earlier been bowled out for 65 in 19 overs at Allen Oval – after the Warrnambool and District Twenty20 clash had been moved from Brierly – but restricted the Bulls to 8-65, forcing the game into a super over.
Brierly-Christ Church batted first, with skipper Nathan Murphy and Bill Quinlivan making five runs apiece off Steve Wythe’s bowling.
Drew and DK Ranaweera took the crease for Dennington, with singles off the first two deliveries, before Drew – who said he had been “hitting them terribly” in earlier games – hit the next two balls for six to snap up the win.
“I had in mind that I was going to go over short leg if I got the ball in the right spot,” he said.
“It was a close game; it could’ve gone either way.
“I’ve never been in a game where we’ve made 65 and won.”
Drew praised Dennington’s bowling and fielding efforts in defending their small total, particularly young Harry Rantall, who bowled his first over in the 20th and held his nerve to concede just five runs.
Lower order batsmen proved crucial for both sides, with Stuart Brown making 22 for the Dogs while Lachlan Rooke scored an unbeaten 23 for the Bulls. Connor Umbers snared 4-17 for the Bulls, while Anthony Love (Brierly-Christ Church), Xavier Beks and Sam Worden (Dennington) each took three wickets.
