FANS of Daffy, the duck who made Warrnambool breakwater her home, are concerned as to her whereabouts and health.
Warrnambool man Dale Wilde contacted The Standard to report that Daffy appeared to have been hit by a car on October 15 in the breakwater car park.
Mr Wilde said he was eating lunch in his car at the breakwater when he and his partner noticed the duck in an empty car park.
“He has a bad habit of laying in the car park in an empty space near the gutter,” Mr Wilde said.
“I remember thinking, I hope he doesn’t get run over and sure enough, a silver station wagon pulled in and the driver must not have seen him.
“Daffy flew off and there were feathers everywhere. He flew over the top of us and off towards Middle Island.
“Two girls jumped out of the car and told the car off. I don’t think he knew he’d hit the duck … but he definitely hit him.”
Horse trainer Tammy Good said she hadn’t seen Daffy since October 14, but mentioned that a fellow horse trainer had seen Daffy on October 21 “with a really badly swollen and injured leg”. “She used to fly over to (Middle Island) during the day so I’m hoping she’s over there because at least the Maremmas are there to keep the foxes away,” Ms Good said.
The Standard received a text on Monday suggesting that a duck wich resembled Daffy was seen at the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens and appeared to be injured.
