He could run in the $20,000 St Arnaud Cup on Saturday or will be saved for the $60,000 Hamilton Cup on Sunday.
The injury-prone Hornets’ Nest scored an impressive victory in a $50,000 restricted race at Warrnambool last week after an unlucky fifth in the Coleraine Cup.
McNamara said he would leave it to the scratching time on Saturday morning before making his decision.
“I've got a few things to weigh up before I make up my mind,” the Koroit milk bar owner said.
“I would have to say at this stage I've got a leaning to go to St Arnaud.
“But the Hamilton Cup is a serious option.
“St Arnaud is an easier race, but in saying that no races are easy to win.
“Hornets’ Nest has gone along really well since his win at Warrnambool last week.
“I took him down to the beach for a few days and he's thrived on that sort of preparation.”
The Darren Weir-trained Leica Day looks the one to beat in the Hamilton Cup.
The lightly raced five-year-old scored a convincing victory in his last run in Adelaide.
In-form trainer Ciaron Maher, fresh from his Caulfield Cup win with Jameka, saddles up the consistent Name The Day in the feature race on the eight-race program.
Stewards have rated the track a soft seven following more than 30 millimetres of rain over the past week.
The Hamilton Cup, which is run over 2200 metres, is scheduled to start at 3.55pm.
Weir will have a runner in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
