It’s National Bird Week as well as the third annual Aussie Backyard Bird Count – which asks people to record the birds they see using an app or website.
BirdLife Warrnambool president Peter Barrand said people should get involved. “South-west Victoria is a tremendous bird watching area,” Mr Barrand said. “We’ve got parts of big forest down here still, ocean not that far away, big rivers with the Glenelg River and other rivers.
“Get out and count the birds in your backyard. It doesn’t matter if you don’t get huge results.”
More than 700,000 birds had been counted, with magpies most common.
