Johnson and his Victorian Over 30s teammates Nick Warr, from Bairnsdale, and John Salem, from Melbourne, took out the silver medal after going down to New Zealand 6-4 in the decider.
“It was pretty close all the way,” Johnson said.
“I won two of my three singles and the other two won one single each but we lost the doubles.”
Johnson was thrilled with his results in the Warrnambool Table Tennis Association life member’s first time representing his state.
Victoria finished top of its pool, setting up a crossover semi-final appearance against New South Wales, which it won 6-2.

Johnson lost just three of his 15 individual matches in the teams section, which his only loss in the decider going to a fifth set.
He advanced to the second round in the singles’ competition after winning two of his three matches in the round robin stage on Thursday.
“Hopefully I just go as well as I can. There’s some very good players in the singles draw, people that are top 10 in Australia,” Johnson said.
He will face New Zealand’s Simon Fenwick in his first clash on Friday night.
