End-of-year celebrations were kick-started by Emmanuel College on Monday with the graduation of its 183 students.
College marketing director Jean Christie said there was a great sense of occasion at the Valedictory, which was also the debut of the college’s new hall, proceeding its official opening in November.
School captain Isabella Mahoney-O’Donnell said a six-year chapter was closing, bringing with it a “mixed bag of thoughts and feelings”.
“A lot of people are wondering what’s next,” she said. “But there’s huge excitement too.”
Captain Joey Brady said even though the exams were still to come, there was a feeling of relief among the class of 2016.
“It’s over,” he said.
The two captains join a high percentage of year-12 students who have applied to continue the education at a tertiary level.
While seventeen King’s College students celebrated the final days of their schooling career on Wednesday with the annual muck-up night, graduating Brauer College students spent Wednesday in Dunkeld, celebrating their final day with colour run, water slide and a jumping castle.
Year-12 coordinator Paul McFadden said by the end of a “lovely” day, the group were feeling “nostalgic” and “gooey”.
Mr McFadden said around 80 per cent of students had applied for tertiary studies, even if they planned to take a gap year.
Student Sam Alexander agreed that it was a good day.
“It’s a nice way to cap it all off really,” he said.
“There’s mixed emotions from many. Some are glad its over but they’re realising it’s the last time we’ll be together as a group.”
Warrnambool College students attended a breakfast at Russel’s Creek on Thursday morning, which was followed by their final assembly.
Year-12 coordinator Brad Henriksen said the celebration was one of the best, describing the general feeling of 165 students as joyous.
“Some say it’s all been a little anti-climactic as they turn on exam mode now so the reprieve is short lived,” he said.
Victorian students are now on their study break and will commence final exams next Wednesday, October 26.
