Acting Sergeant Jason Barker said the incident had a peaceful resolution at about 2.30am when the man surrendered himself to police officers at the scene.
The 23-year-old was involved in an altercation with family members about 8pm, who contacted Warrnambool police.
The man was armed with a knife and refused to come outside after being requested to do so by officers, leading to a siege situation developing.
Acting Sergeant Barker said the man was now in the Warrnambool police station cells and would be interviewed on Wednesday morning in relation to family violence.
Tuesday, 10pm: POLICE are at the scene of an armed siege in Landy Grove in Warrnambool’s east.
A police spokesman said officers were dealing with a man armed with a knife in a house in Landy Grove.
He said two people fled from the house but he added it was unclear if they had been held hostage or if it was a domestic situation.
He said the incident was ongoing and the man was still in the house and refusing to come out.
