They have won three out of their first four games – their only loss a six-point defeat by Horsham Hornets in the opening clash – despite having to hit the road for two away double-headers.
They played at Horsham and Stawell on the opening weekend, before taking on Colac Kookas in Geelong on Saturday night – winning 72-53 – and prevailing in a one-point thriller against Portland Coasters at Portland on Sunday.
The road trips have not fazed the Tornadoes, who are looking to take the next step after hovering between three and five wins since returning to the CBL three years ago.
New coach Dean Brebner, who was available to play just two games last season, has been impressed by how quickly the team has gelled.
“The start of the season I knew was going to be tough, having a lot of road games and not having the team together for a lot during the preseason,” he said.
“The team has come together really well. We’ve still got a lot of stuff to work on, but now we know where we’re at and the standard we can potentially get.
“The goal from the start of the season has always been to be a finals contender again, (but) we’re just taking each week as it comes.”
Brebner said the Tornadoes’ roster is largely similar to last year, bar the inclusion of a few younger players and Warrnambool’s Jake O’Flynn.
They have a bye this weekend before taking on Warrnambool Seahawks the next.
