Jameka entered the iconic race as the favourite, with odds of $4.20 at the barrier.

Maher is originally from Winslow in south-west Victoria but now trains out of Caulfield.

The lightly raced four-year-old mare was just off the pace heading into the home straight, but found a favourable position on the back of slick work from jockey Nick Hall to steal the win from Scottish midway down the famous straight.
