Hawkesdale P-12 College takes out education excellence award

HAWKESDALE P-12 College beat 130 schools across Australia to take out an award recognising its education curriculum.

The school won the Beacon national excellence award for most outstanding careers education curriculum for 2012.

Hawkesdale Beacon co-ordinator Graeme Poynton said the school worked very hard across all subject areas and year levels to ensure its students were on positive pathways.

“The school is very conscious that the majority of students will need to leave the area to pursue career pathways and consequently have developed creative programs and partnerships with business and industry to assist with this transition,” he said.

“Our involvement in the Beacon program has been instrumental in fostering and sustaining these partnerships.”

Mr Poynton said to achieve outstanding careers education curriculum, it was all about individualised, student-centred learning.

“At Hawkesdale P-12 College we don’t need numbers to make things happen. We look at each student’s individual needs and work hard towards achieving the best possible outcome for every student,” he said.
