The blaze in the Menzies Street home is believed to have begun in a rear bedroom about 12.30am.
An arson chemist examined the property on Thursday after police deemed the fire suspicious.
Demolition work began on the house on Friday.
Detective Senior Constable Gary Greene of Warrnambool police’s criminal investigation unit said detectives were “hoping to speak to a person of interest in the coming days”.
Warrnambool Fire Brigade station officer Bob Williams said it appeared the fire had quickly moved into the roof where it was spread by strong winds.
