Hawkesdale-Macarthur backs Gleeson

Hawkesdale-Macarthur has chosen to promote from within when appointing its new senior football coach.

Jeremy Gleeson has been named the Mininera and District Football League club’s coach for the 2013 season, a step up from his role as assistant coach last season.

Gleeson takes over the role from Brad Sholl, who announced his retirement at the end of the season.

Gleeson brings plenty of experience to the role, having previously completed two stints as the senior coach of Old Collegians in the Warrnambool and District Football Netball League.

The Eagles are coming off a successful 2012, when they made it to the preliminary final.

Gleeson said he was excited to be given the chance to coach the club.

“The club has some really good kids and early indications are that we will retain our core group of players,” he said.

“We are working hard to get some former players back to the club and maybe a few players out of Warrnambool.”

Pre-season training begins on Tuesday, November 20.
