To the Warrnambool Landcare Coastcare Network member’s surprise, after the water receded she found more than 90 per cent of the plants had survived the inundation, with some actually thriving due to the soaking.
The planting on Friday September 9 saw the group, made up of year nine students from the Gnurad Gundidj campus at Glenormiston, replace woody weeds on the riverbank near the end of Queens Road.
The group planted local native seedlings including grasses, swamp gums, prickly moses and melaleucas, and will do more work at the site to help restore the riverbank back to a healthy state.
