Merrett polled the most of any south-west player in Monday night’s Brownlow Medal count, notching 19 votes, which also topped the Bombers’ list by 13 votes.
The 20-year-old ball magnet polled three sets of three votes, before filling out the rest of his haul with sets of two. It capped a stunning rise to fame, in a season which has also yielded an Essendon club best-and-fairest for the former Cobden star.
Warrnambool export and Hawthorn midfielder Jordan Lewis was the second highest Hawk in the count, polling 11 votes behind Sam Mitchell.
Lewis averaged a total of 26.4 disposals per game, and enjoyed improved disposal efficiency in yet another consistent year.
Bulldogs’ premiership players-to-be, Easton Wood and Liam Picken, who hail from Camperdown and Hamilton, accrued three and four votes respectively.
