Nobel Prize recipient Dr Russell Schnell, visiting the city to participate in a Deakin University event, has left a free library in the courtyard of Warrnambool Art Gallery.
The enlarged letter box-shaped library, which includes up to 40 titles, allows book lovers to help themselves to a book and replace it with another.
The pop-up library, which travelled from Canada with Dr Schnell, will be at the gallery until the end of summer.
Warrnambool Art Gallery director Vanessa Gerrans hopes the books will encourage readers to the art space.
“It’s great to already see people in beanbags reading at the entrance to the gallery,” she said.
