Melanie Mason is the latest product to emerge with a gold medal from the Spartan Mixed Martial Arts Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition, which was held last week.
Gibb said Mason was “super nervous” heading into the fight.
“Mel was giving herself no chance, but once she got on the mat there was no stopping her,” he said.
Fellow Spartan fighter Lachie Dart won three clashes in a row, before just missing out on victory in the final via points decision.
Gibb said Dart was awarded honours as competitor of the day for his losing effort against a 150kg opponent.
However, Dart – who is nicknamed ‘The Poison’ walked away with a silver medal in the open weight male division.
Heath Addison also scored a bronze medal in the senior white belt devision.
