Authorities have warned of the dangers of entering floodwaters after two jet-skiers were spotted on the river at Hopkins Falls and Allansford on Sunday.
The reminder comes as the flooded Hopkins River at Allansford and Mount Emu Creek at Panmure reached their peak early on Sunday before starting to drop.
Warrnambool SES controller Giorgio Palmeri said the peak was 1.5m to two meters below the 2011 floods.
Mr Palmeri said the safety message in the past few days had been clear. “During floods it is very unwise to enter the water. You really don’t know what you can have floating towards you,” he said. There had been trees, cows and TVs floating down the river as well as chemicals and fertilisers, Mr Palmeri said
SES public information officer David Goldfinch said no more peaks were expected on the Hopkins River despite predicted rain on Tuesday.
