Aussie Disposals is expected to open in the former Dick Smith building within the next month.
Warrnambool real estate agent John Ryan said securing the lease with the group was a win for the Warrnambool CBD.
The building’s ground level offers 300 square metres of retail space and a basement of 190 square metres. The property has Liebig Street frontage and rear access to Parkers Car Park.
Mr Ryan said Aussie Disposals was looking for a high profile location and the store in the heart of the city suited their requirements.
Aussie Disposals stocks a range of camping gear, work clothing and military surplus.
“They have got numerous stores around Victoria,” Mr Ryan said. “They’re looking to establish themselves in a prominent central location which is what this property has got.”
He said premises of the building’s size were hard to find in the main shopping precinct.
“The lease has commenced and they start fitting out the premises this week. We expect them to be trading in the next three to four weeks,” he said.
Works on Liebig Street’s former Centrepoint Arcade are also underway, transforming the 1200 square metre space into multiple Cotton On Group stores. It is due to open in November.
In other Liebig Street movements, women’s clothing store Supre has departed the CBD for a 153 square metre store at Gateway Plaza.
Supre is due to reopen in just over a week and will be located in the former Factorie store at the rear of the plaza.
Supre global retail and operations manager Kath Podnar confirmed the move and alluded to the group’s return to Liebig Street at a later date.
“We closed our Warrnambool Square store (last) weekend as we prepare to open and operate at a larger site in Gateway, on October 4,” Ms Podnar said.
“There are exciting things happening in Liebig Street, which is great for the town and we will be keeping our eye on this site.”
Mr Ryan said another CBD development was the opening of a new Indian restaurant this week at 132 Koroit Street, where Star Printing was formerly located. “They’ve done a very exciting fit out to develop a very good restaurant,” Mr Ryan said.
