For Nirranda’s Nathan Couch, the nerves and excitement meant a sleepless Thursday night.

Couch suited up alongside brother and Scotty Stewart medallist Mitch in the Blues’ seven-point premiership victory over Old Collegians.

The Curdievale-based dairy farmer, who has acted as a deputy to the Blues’ head coaches for the last four seasons, played a part in all-four finals games of the Nirranda finals narrative.

Under the guidance of co-coaches Shane Threlfall and Shane Quick, Couch helped to steer the club out of a 17-year finals drought and into premiership stardom on Saturday.

“It will probably take a bit over a day to sink in, for us to think about what we’ve achieved,” he told The Standard.

“The coaches (Threlfall and Quick) have brought in a lot of discipline. If everybody is on the same page, and playing the right brand of footy, you’ll go a long way.”
