Mrs Britnell was told to leave parliament for a brief time on Thursday after repeatedly interjecting while Emergency Services Minister James Merlino spoke about the controversial enterprise bargaining agreement (EBA) being sought by the United Firefighters Union (UFU).
She said she interjected because she fiercely disputed Mr Merlino’s claim that CFA volunteers were “not unhappy” with the EBA sought by the UFU.
Mrs Britnell said she was being constantly contacted by CFA volunteers both within and outside her electorate who were unhappy about the proposed EBA and she was not prepared to remain silent while CFA volunteers were insulted.
“Lots of volunteers, lots of people are angry,” she said.
She said opposition to the proposed EBA was getting stronger with “the power of the people” firming resistance to the EBA.
“This is not about politics. This is about the danger of communities being pulled apart when so many are good at fighting fires,” Mrs Britnell said.
She said she was incensed the issue was “getting nastier” with personal attacks on those who opposed the proposed EBA.
Mrs Britnell, who has been active in the Liberal Party’s opposition to the EBA, was previously asked to leave parliament in June after interjecting when the CFA issue was also discussed.
