League general manager Dianne Membery stood down from her role on Tuesday night.
First-year chairman Barry Crimmin made the announcement on behalf of the board in a statement a short time ago.
Crimmin did not elaborate on the circumstances of Membery’s departure when contacted by The Standard.
“Warrnambool and District Football Netball League board wishes to advise that long-standing WDFNL general manager Dianne Membery has resigned from her role, effective immediately,” Crimmin said in the statement.
“The WDFNL board would like to acknowledge the outstanding contribution Dianne has made to the WDFNL over a long period of time, and wish her all the best in any future endeavours.
“Dianne’s experience will be hard to replicate and the timing of this decision is unfortunate with two major finals still to play out this season.
“The WDFNL board have therefore put in place some temporary administration arrangements, to ensure disruption is limited through the current WDFNL final series.”
Membery was general manager for 10 years and involved with the league in some capacity since 1992.
She did not want to comment on her decision other than to say she “absolutely loved the league and had given a huge contribution to the league”.
AFL Victoria Western District general manager Lachy Patterson said the commission was “happy to support the league in anyway possible through this period”.
