Knitters from Port Fairy and the East Gambier Uniting Church in Mount Gambier joined forces as part of the Guardian Angel Knitting Program.
Port Fairy’s McLean’s Pharmacy is a Guardian pharmacy and retail manager Gwenda Wilson said the response was overwhelming.
“We’ve got boxes and boxes out the back,” Mrs Wilson said. “It’s amazing what they knit and the work that’s gone into it,”
The items, including clothing, blankets and hats, will be donated to groups including Anglicare Warrnambool, South West Healthcare’s Families Where a Parent has a Mental Illness program and the Tanzanian Bandari School.
“We want to let people know how appreciative we are because the knitting is just stunning,” she said.
An afternoon tea for knitters is in Port Fairy on September 14; to register call 5568 1083.
