Moyne Shire environment and regulatory services manager Robert Gibson said it was important to maintain the historic site and keep the cannons in public view.
He said the four cannons had been re-positioned and two shelters constructed to protect them, creating a display.
“It looks more like a collection now,” Mr Gibson said.
He said Heritage Victoria had approved the works.
“It’s about making a feature of the cannons and doing our best to look after them,” he said.
“The carriages have deteriorated in the weather.
“One option was to put them away in storage or build shelters and protect them from the weather and we chose to keep them here.”
Mr Gibson said further revegetation works on the hill would complete the project.
“We’ve tried to make the place more attractive to visitors and residents.”
