Even though they were bolstered by the return of captain Isaac Slater, Warrnambool fell by three goals to Ballarat Soccer Club – the same team which handed an undermanned Rangers a 9-0 thumping in July.
Pyke said while the result was disappointing, the game held them in strong stead leading into the first final.
“We’ll probably come up against Ballarat again this week in finals,” he said.
“It is a good indicator of a few of their strengths and while there wasn’t much on the line in terms of ladder positions, we used it to experiment with a few positional changes.
“Over the last two weeks I’ve said to the guys that we’d be playing finals-like games without the pressure. We’ll be on the turf pitch at Morshead Park on Saturday night, so hopefully we find our feet and dictate the game.”
Pyke said confidence was brimming at the club after victories over Forest and Sebastopol in recent weeks.
