The band, which combines hip-hop, funk, reggae and punk, were runners-up in the Moyne and Corangamite heats, but judges selected them as the best of the five acts that performed at the Lighthouse Theatre.
Runk, which features members from Warrnambool, Garvoc and Lismore, will advance to the Barwon South-West final.
Second place went to Shady Maiden and third place went to Angela & Nikki.
About 100 young people attended the gig, which was headlined by metal band Against Our Pride.
Against Our Pride won last year’s Warrnambool heat and went on to win the state final.
Warrnambool City Council youth development planner Katie McKean said all five bands “were fantastic”.
“The judges deliberated for quite some time to come up with their placings,” McKean said.
She said young bands will have more opportunities to perform live over summer with the return of a youth stage to the Friday night summer markets at Lake Pertobe, as well as at skate comps and open mic events.
