The Dogs were five goals up with just five minutes remaining in the final term, but a late surge from Merrivale saw them slip to a two-goal loss.
Dennington coach Katie Burt, who shot at an impressive 87 per cent for her 28 goals, said the team had to be quick to move on from the loss and focus their attention on preliminary final opponent Nirranda.
“Our girls are disappointed, but that’s just natural,” she said.
“I was extremely proud of my girls. They’ve done a lot of things right this year.
“To Merrivale’s credit, they were very strategic and very clever, and it paid off.
“But (Saturday) is gone now … we have to get in the right mindset to get the job done.”
