MERRIVALE coach Jacqui McDonald says her charges find themselves in the “unique position” of going into the second semi-final as underdogs, despite finishing top of the ladder.

They are set to face proven performer Dennington – which finished in second spot – in what is shaping as a titanic contest at Allansford.
“It sort of puts us in a unique position (not being favourites), but we’re not even considering that. It’ll just be the best team on the day,” McDonald said.
The minor premiers earned the first week of finals off and, after putting in a Saturday morning training session, went along to watch the qualifying final.
McDonald said Merrivale locked in its starting seven after the game, and are now looking to keep the same group until the end of their finals campaign.
She said the Tigers were confident in their versatility after regularly trialling different combinations throughout the season.
