Lavish MacTavish, who won his maiden last start at Coleraine on August 13, proved too strong for Tons Of Dash and Fine Embers in the 2047 metre race.
"He's been a slow maturing horse," trainer James McNamara said.
"He's just taken a long time. He's an arrogant type. He would stand all over you but I always knew he had some ability.
“He got conditions to suit today with the heavy surface. We'll keep him going because he does not like hard tracks."
Warrnambool trainers had a big afternoon winning six of the nine races on the program. Symon Wilde had a double while Mitch Freedman, Matthew Williams and Peter Chow plus McNamara all had winners.
