As a ratepayer and caravanner I am astounded by some of the proposals put forward by some candidates in the forthcoming Warrnambool City Council elections.
Proposal one: Return tourist information centre to previous location so tourists can find it.
The centre is perfect where it is — it funnels people in to Flagstaff Hill, provides sea views as people eat at the restaurant or in their vans.
Good signage is all that’s needed. If they can’t find it, they won’t get far. It is an insult to tourists who travel all over Australia to suggest they can’t find it easily.
Proposal two: McGennan car park again — haven’t we spent enough? People sitting in cars can see the sea from the breakwater, Pickering Point and Thunder Point.
After the pavilion closes there is no toilet available at the breakwater.
In the summer fishermen fish late at night. They can’t leave their lines and drive to a toilet. Walkers need a toilet too.
If the candidates don’t get it, tell them to check out the alcoves down there. Back to basic services, not back to the past.
