KOROIT Bowls Club, Warrnambool Model Aircraft Club, and Port Fairy Football Netball Club are the big winners in the first round of Moyne Shire’s community assistance fund allocations for 2016/’17.

The three clubs each received $20,000 out of a total $166,256 handed out by the council.
Moyne Shire received 42 applications, of which 29 were successful.
Koroit Bowls Club has been allocated $20,000 as part of a $75,564 project to replace the last of their grass greens with a synthetic surface.
Warrnambool Model Aircraft Club, which is located north of Koroit, will receive $20,000 as part of a $41,438 project to build a new clubhouse and machinery shed after their current facilities were flagged by Moyne Shire as no longer safe.
The $20,000 grant for Port Fairy Football Netball Club is dependent on the club successfully receiving other grants. The club is seeking a total of $44,000 to add electronic elements to their iconic scoreboard.
Other successful grant recipients include:
- Mortlake Community Development Committee – $15,000 for Mortlake Skate Park rejuvenation project
- Mortlake Racing Club – $13,000 for facility upgrades and irrigation equipment
- Port Fairy Cricket Club – $9900 for a new pitch roller
- Western District Campdraft Association – $8300 for amenities and equipment upgrade
- Purnim Recreation Reserve – $7500 for tree trimming and pavilion verandah
- Koroit Urban Fire Brigade – $6314 for a thermal imaging camera
- Merri Kindergarten – $6225 for shade sails to go over the playground
- Cudgee Hall Association – $4069 for hall refurbishment
Some of the funding allocations are dependent on conditions, such as other funding being sourced or building permits.
Other successful applicants included the Hawkesdale Memorial Hall Committee, Deakin Uni-Mortlake Junior Sharks football team, Port Fairy Bowls Club, Port Fairy Belfast Lions Club, Great South Coast Eventing Association, Mailors Flat Hall Committee, Hawkesdale Swimming Pool, Hexham Recreation Reserve, Warrnambool & District Pipe & Drums Inc, and the Woolsthorpe Cricket Club.
Moyne Shire will offer a further $65,000 in round two of its community assistance fund later this year.
The council is also working with several unsuccessful applicants to help them improve their applications for round two.
The $166,256 in funding allocated so far will contribute to projects worth $373,000.
