Miss Kit was a finalist in two categories at the The Australian Beauty Industry Awards, held in Sydney on Sunday.
The business won the salon team of the year award and Miss Kit salon director Jodi Leahy was also a finalist in the business director/owner of the year category.
Ms Leahy who opened the Koroit Street salon two years ago said the award win was a huge surprise.
“When I was looking around at all the talented people and amazing salons, we were blown away. We didn’t actually think we’d win,” she said.
The salon director said they were up against larger established beauty businesses including two from Perth and Sydney.
Ms Leahy said some of the areas that contributed to the win included the salon’s success and its commitment to training and keeping up with the latest trends.
One example was a trip to Hong Kong for three staff members to attend the Cosmoprof, the world largest beauty expo, in November last year. Other areas such as innovative marketing, teamwork and community involvement were also contributing factors, she said.
Miss Kit was also a regional business award finalist this year which Ms Leahy said judges would have also taken into account.
“We thank the community for supporting us, being such a new salon. We’ve grown so fast for a salon that’s been operating for two years. It’s really amazing.”
Ms Leahy also thanked her team. “The award is about them and their passion for the beauty industry.”
The Australian Beauty Industry Awards represent one of the highest accolades within the industry and honour the best of the best in both creative and business categories.
