Mr Read said a whale cow called Bonnett and her calf were at Logans Beach on Saturday and reappeared on Monday before heading west to the ocean near Lake Gillear.
He said Bonnett and the calf had been at Warrnambool for a few days last month but had spent most of their time off Wye River near Lorne.
Bonnett has raised two previous calves at Warrnambool.
