But for 12-year-old Ava Laidlaw, the postman had a very special delivery.
As part of her 90th birthday celebrations, Queen Elizabeth found time to reply to birthday wishes from Ava.
“My grandmother lives in England and she came out here on holidays in April,” Ava said.
“My birthday is April 22, a day before the Queens, so Nan suggested I send a birthday card to the Queen.”
Soon after sending the card, Ava received a card and letter from Buckingham Palace. The card featured a picture of the Queen and a thank-you. The letter was even more personal, written on behalf of the Queen by her lady-in-waiting. It wished Ava a happy birthday and even mentioned her dog, Jeff. A school captain at Warrnambool West Primary School, Ava is one of a select group to receive personal correspondence from the Queen. It is believed only 20-100 people each year get such a direct reply.
