Geelong Falcons’ Sean Darcy will return to TAC Cup ranks on Saturday following school commitments with Xavier College, eager to boost his draft chances.
Falcons talent manager Michael Turner said the 200-centimetre powerhouse attracted interest from the top level after impressive performances for Vic Country at the AFL under 18 national championships.
Turner believes Darcy could join fellow Cobden talents Ben Cunnington (North Melbourne), Gary Rohan (Sydney) and Jackson and Zach Merrett (Essendon) at the top level come November’s draft.
“The boy from Cobden is a chance,” he said.
“There is a lot of interest in him. He’s over 200cm and competes a bit like (Greater Western Sydney ruckman) Mumford.”
Darcy, who has played four games for the Falcons in 2016, will use the next six weeks to push his case.
Turner said the strong-bodied Darcy was a long-term prospect who needed to shed weight and improve his mobility.
“If we strip weight off him, it’ll make him more mobile and he’ll become a good ruckman,” he said.
“He’s a good tap ruckman, his second and third efforts are good and he’s a good kick.”
Darcy made his Hampden league senior debut for Cobden in 2015.
He was named in the Bombers’ best and kicked a goal in his sole appearance for his home club.
