A drunk tow-truck driver has been arrested after causing a trail of destruction in Melbourne's east early this morning, police say.
The tow truck crashed off Ferntree Gully Road in Oakleigh East and demolished the front fence of a house before rupturing a water and gas main about 1am today.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the driver ran from the crash scene, but left some of his belongings in the truck. His personal identification is believed to be among the items he left behind.
Police called in the dog squad, who found the man a short time later walking along Ferntree Gully Road near the intersection with Carmichael Road, which is less than a kilometre from the crash scene.
The police spokeswoman said the man allegedly returned a positive blood alcohol reading.
His licence was immediately suspended and he will be charged on summons with drink-driving.
