United or not, Hamilton to reveal its true colours today

THE name and colours of Hamilton’s merged entity will be revealed today as preparations for its debut Hampden Football Netball League season gain momentum.

SED Consulting manager Lachy Patterson, who is managing the merger process, said about 300 people attended a vote in Hamilton on Wednesday night when options were presented, but he remained tight-lipped ahead of a formal announcement today.

Hamilton and Hamilton United were floated as names of the new club, with options of it carrying Kangaroos, Hawks or Power colours.

Patterson said the new club would reveal voting for all six options canvassed.

There was widespread speculation yesterday about which way the vote had gone.

One source indicated to The Standard Kangaroos or Power jumpers had been popular among those who attended, with the name Hamilton favoured over Hamilton United.

Another source suggested Hamilton Kangaroos was the likely name.

Netball uniform design options were also presented.

The new club was formed after Western Border league clubs Hamilton and Hamilton Imperials opted to merge and join the Hampden league following a review of football competitions in Victoria’s south-west and the south-east of South Australia last month.

The club is expected to elect a board by the end of next month.
